David Voigt was born in Sydney in 1944 and studied at the National Art School, Sydney,
from 1964 to 1968. In 1968 he won the English Speaking Union Traveling Scholarship and in 1969
the Power Bequest Studio, Cite International. Between 1979 and 1972, David Voigt lived and
exhibited in France and Holland together with travels of inspiration throughout Europe. He
returned to live and work in Australia in late 1972.
Voigt had his first one person show of etchings, serigraphs and drawings in Canberra in 1968. This
was followed in 1969 by an exhibition of paintings, etchings and works on paper at the Blaxland
Gallery, Sydney.
From 1968 until the present, he has had numerous one-man shows and group exhibitions in every
capital city in Australia and many regional centres.
Among his 17 awards are the Blake Prize in 1976 and 1981 and the Wynne Prize in 1981.
