CHRISTINE HILL Exhibition of paintings showing at Breewood Gallery, 167 The Mall, Leura, NSW 2780 7 July - August 5, 2001 The exhibition opens at Breewood Gallery on July 7th. You are invited to be present to view the works and share drinks and company at 4pm for 4.30pm. "The paintings of Christine Hill were recommended to me by two long standing exhibitors at Breewood; an introduction which led to further enquiry and the excitement of seeing these works for the first time. Painted in acrylic on board with some stressing to the surface, the images are reminiscent of early botanical prints and paintings, but contain an element of surrealism when placed in their mini landscapes and therefore somewhat out of context. This is extended by a backdrop of partially obscured, calligraphic description, which applies tension between the past and the present, or perhaps it is a comfortable link! Nonetheless, these works are very approachable, unashamedly decorative and the virtual beginning of this painter's career, albeit after a long gestation period. This is the first solo exhibition of an emerging artist who has already been recognised by her peers. I am sure that the future holds a place for Christine Hill and her exciting work." - Alan Leek |
